Translations:Beluga whale/5/en
The beluga is an odontocete, or toothed whale. Delphinapterus leucas is the sole living species in the genus Delphinapterus. Together, belugas and narwhals form Monodontidae.[1] Although everyday language does not always follow taxonomic boundaries, this distinction matters: “whale” and “dolphin” are overlapping common-language labels, whereas Monodontidae and Delphinidae are separate biological families.
