Belugas are opportunistic predators. Their diet changes with region and season and includes fishes such as salmon, eulachon, cod, and herring, together with squid, octopuses, shrimp, crabs, clams, snails, and marine worms. They forage in the water column and on or near the seabed. Flexible lips and tongue movements allow suction to assist in taking prey, while the teeth hold rather than masticate it.[1]
