Belugas occur across Arctic and sub-Arctic regions of Alaska, Canada, Greenland, Norway, and Russia. They use a wide range of habitats, including offshore waters, continental shelves, bays, estuaries, fjords, and river mouths; some enter rivers. Many populations make seasonal movements associated with sea ice, prey, reproduction, and summering areas, while others are comparatively resident.
