Newborn belugas are dark grey. Their colour becomes progressively lighter as they mature, and adults are white. NOAA reports a maximum length of about 4.9 metres (16 feet), an average mass of about 1,430 kilograms (3,150 pounds), and a lifespan that may reach 90 years.[1] Size varies by sex and population, so these figures should not be read as a single fixed adult size.
